Let’s talk about pricing your Permanent Makeup treatments — because I know this is one of the biggest struggles artists face.

So many PMU artists want to charge premium prices…
But very few know how to get there.

How do you go from low prices to high prices — without losing clients, confidence, or credibility?

Hi, I’m Kim from Kim Loy Studios, and at the time of recording this (October 2025), I’m currently the most expensive Permanent Makeup artist in the Netherlands.

I charge €850 for my first Hyperrealism Brow treatment, with a €150 touch-up — bringing the total investment to €1,000.

And one of the most common questions I get is:

“How do I get to that €1,000 price point?”

In this post, I’m going to break down:

  • Why most artists stay stuck at low prices

  • The biggest pricing mistakes I see

  • And what actually needs to change if you want to charge premium prices sustainably

Why Most PMU Artists Start Too Cheap

When artists first enter the market, they’re often surrounded by competition.

Everyone is offering:

  • Microblading

  • Powder brows

  • Lips

  • Eyes

When you’re new and offering the same treatments as everyone else, it feels like the only way to compete is on price.

So artists charge low.
Not because it’s strategic — but because it feels safe.

And that’s the first trap.

When you position yourself as a generalist, price becomes the only differentiator.

And that’s a race you don’t want to win.

Pricing Should Reflect Value, Not the Market Average

One of the biggest mindset shifts you need to make is this:

Your prices should reflect the value you provide — not what others are charging.

If someone else is charging €200 for brows, that doesn’t mean you should match them… or undercut them.

It means you need to ask:

  • How can I deliver a level of expertise that puts me in a different category?

  • How can I position myself so price comparisons stop happening?

When you’re truly premium, clients don’t shop around.
They choose you.

Why Premium Pricing Attracts Better Clients

This is something many artists are afraid to admit — but it’s true.

Premium pricing attracts premium clients.

Clients who:

  • Respect your time

  • Value your expertise

  • Follow aftercare

  • Don’t haggle

  • Don’t ask for discounts

These are clients with disposable income who understand that quality costs more.

And when someone pays a premium price, they inherently value the work more.

This creates a better experience for you and the client.

You’re Not Selling a Treatment — You’re Selling Expertise

Another critical mindset shift:

You’re not just selling a PMU treatment.
You’re not just a technician.

You’re selling:

  • Confidence

  • Transformation

  • Safety

  • Skill

  • And most importantly — expertise

Expertise comes from focus.

That’s why I consistently teach artists to choose one technique and become exceptional at it.

When people recognise you as “the artist for that treatment,” price resistance disappears.

Common Pricing Mistakes That Keep Artists Stuck

Let’s talk about what not to do.

1. Competing with Cheap Prices

Discounts and promotions might fill your diary short-term — but they destroy long-term positioning.

Being the cheapest is not a business strategy.
It’s a fast track to burnout.

2. Raising Prices Without Raising Value

You can’t simply double your prices and expect everything to work itself out.

Higher prices must be backed by:

  • Better skill

  • Stronger results

  • Clear specialisation

  • Client validation

Premium pricing is built gradually, over months and years.

3. Charging Premium Without a Premium Brand

Your work might be excellent — but does your brand reflect that?

Ask yourself:

  • How do you show up online?

  • Are you professional or playful in a way that undermines trust?

  • Does your content position you as an expert or “just another artist”?

Your skill, pricing, and brand must align.

How I Help Artists Reach Premium Pricing

Inside my Hyperrealism Brows Mastery Program, I don’t just teach technique.

I help artists with:

  • Positioning

  • Branding

  • Packaging their services

  • Pricing psychology

  • Attracting high-end clients

We focus on targeting clients who can afford premium work — not those looking for discounts.

Because building a profitable, sustainable business is far easier when you’re serving the right audience.

The Psychology of Pricing (This Matters More Than You Think)

Here’s a simple truth:

When people pay more, they perceive more value.
When they pay less, they expect less.

Premium pricing isn’t just about income — it’s about positioning, trust, and authority.

And when paired with genuine expertise, it works.

Is Hyperrealism the Technique That Could Set You Apart?

If you’ve identified that:

  • No one in your area is offering Hyperrealism Brows

  • You’re ready to specialise

  • You want to become known for one exceptional skill

  • And you want to charge higher prices confidently

Then this may be the path for you.
