What is Microblading?
Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing which implants pigment into the skin to achieve the look of real hair strokes in the eyebrow area.
With the use of a fine needle hand-held tool, hairlike strokes are scratched into the upper layers of the skin depositing natural pigment to achieve fuller-looking eyebrows with a defined shape.
Is Microblading permanent?
Unlike traditional tattooing, which is permanent, Microblading is considered to be semi-permanent, lasting around 1-3 years depending on the skin type and skincare routine.

In some cases, the pigment will never entirely disappear and may leave a faint shadow in the skin. Factors which affect the retention of the pigment are:

  • Oily skin does not retain pigment well. It will fade much quicker than normal to dry skin types
  • Lighter pigments fade faster than dark pigments
  • UV rays over time can fade or discolour the pigment, so it’s essential to use sunscreen
  • Daily use of certain face creams containing Tretinoin, Retin-A, Alpha Hydroxy, Glycolic Acid can cause the pigment to fade faster due to bleaching and increased skin regeneration.
How long does the appointment take?
Typically 2-3 hours, but a large portion of that time is spent drawing the new eyebrow shape and discussing colours. The Microblading procedure takes 30-45 mins. Much time is spent working with the client to achieve a brow shape and style that they like.

Is Microblading painful?
Everyone has a different pain threshold, but generally, the pain is considered to be mild.

To make the procedure as comfortable as possible, it’s advised that you bring with you some topical anaesthetic cream to numb the area. Anaesthetics containing lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine are suitable and can be purchased online, from a local pharmacy or your doctor.

Will I need a top-up and is that included in the price?
Yes, the top-up 6-8 weeks later is included in the price and yes it’s advised you attend the top-up.  Everyone has different skin, in differing conditions; therefore, the healing process and outcome vary.

The top-up is to address any healing issues such as filling in any gaps that may have appeared or to go a darker shade if you feel your brows are too light.

The top-up session will ensure that your new eyebrows stick around for longer.

How long will it take to heal?
The skin will fully heal by 7-14 days. However, you won’t see the exact colour and shape of the strokes until around 4-6 weeks, which is why the top-up is after this point.

For the first couple of days, your brows may seem very dark as they start to scab over. By week two, the scabs will start to fall away, revealing light or invisible strokes. Don’t panic. This is all part of the healing process. Your skin would have healed over the pigment giving it a milky look. Over the coming weeks, the skin will regenerate, and the pigment will start to show through in-time for your touch up.

How do I make an appointment?
To make an appointment, you’ll first need to complete an online consultation form which will determine if Microblading is suitable for you.

If you qualify, I’ll be in touch via Whatsapp or text message to arrange a date for the treatment. A deposit is required to secure the booking, with the remaining balance paid on the treatment day.

So if you’d like to book an appointment, please complete this online consultation form and I’ll be in touch once you’ve submitted it.

What is the aftercare process?

The day of the treatment

After the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid.
Do this every 5 minutes until the oozing has stopped.
Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids.

Days 0-7: Wash and Moisturise

Wash twice a day to remove bacteria, a build-up of product and oils, and dead skin. (Don’t worry, THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!)

Gently wash your eyebrows each morning and night with water and antibacterial soap. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to cleanse the eyebrows gently. Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or exfoliants.

After washing, apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. NEVER put the ointment on wet or damp brows.

Days 7-14: Keep clean and don’t pick

Continue to wash your brows with antibacterial soap gently. Continue to avoid cleansing products over the brow areas. If you’re skin feels tight and itchy then you can still apply a little aftercare ointment, but it’s not mandatory at this point.

Your brows will scab over, it’s vital that you do not pick. Allow the scabs to fall off naturally.

Important reminders.

  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for 1 week.
  • Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.
  • Avoid long, hot showers for 14 days.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face for 14 days.
  • Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for 14 days,
  • No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.
  • Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the area.
  • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.
  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour.
Important note about showering:

Limit your showers to 5 minutes so that you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure area out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet only at the end of the shower. Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

Following all the above guidance will ensure excellent long-term results from your Microblading treatment.
