Still struggling to get your client’s brows symmetrical? Whether you’re a beginner in the PMU world or just new to Hyperrealism Brows, this guide will save you hours of guesswork—and save your reputation from dreaded “my brows are uneven” messages.

Today I’m sharing my personal 10-step mapping and symmetry method I teach to all my students inside the Hyperrealism Brows Mastery Program.

If you’ve ever finished a treatment only to hear later from a client that their brows look uneven, this method is going to be a game-changer for you.

Why Getting Eyebrow Symmetry Right Is So Difficult (And What Most Artists Miss)

In the early stages of learning, most PMU artists don’t yet have the trained eye to detect symmetry errors by sight alone. That’s totally normal. The truth is, even experienced artists can get thrown off by small client movements or facial asymmetry.

So instead of relying solely on your eyes, I recommend using the Phi App—a free symmetry app that lets you check, correct, and perfect your brow sketch at every single step.

Let’s dive into my process.

The 10-Step Brow Mapping Symmetry Process

I walk through this exact 10-step method on video, where you can watch me demonstrate each step clearly. Watch the tutorial here

The 10-Step Brow Mapping Symmetry Process

1. Client Must Sit Upright

Mapping should never be done lying down—especially with mature skin. Sit your client up so gravity isn’t working against you and facial muscles are relaxed.

2. Mark Key Points Using White Mapping String

Start by mapping:

  • The center (using the bridge, not the tip, of the nose)

  • Fronts of the brows (guided by natural growth or inner eye corners)

  • Arch (line from nose corner through outer iris)

  • Tail (line from nose corner through outer eye)

3. Use the Symmetry App to Double Check

Snap a photo in the Phi App. Align the client’s pupils or ring light reflections to center the face. Use vertical/horizontal guides to check that:

  • Both brows start at the same vertical point

  • Arch points align horizontally

  • Tails end at the same height and length

4. Make Adjustments Before Sketching

If your lines aren’t matching in the app, go back and re-draw your strings. Don’t sketch until your guide points are perfect.

5. Top Line Check Before Bottom

Draw the top line first. Then pause to re-check the height in the app. Fix issues here before continuing.

6. Draw the Bottom Line

Once height is verified, sketch the lower outline. Again, photograph and check alignment.

7. Use the App to Confirm Outline Accuracy

At this stage, the outline should look identical on both sides in the app—especially the arches and tail heights.

8. Have the Symmetry Talk (If Needed)

Some clients have naturally asymmetric bone structure. If one brow sits significantly higher, show them with the app and explain why 100% symmetry isn’t possible—and why forcing it would look unnatural.

9. Sketch the Hairstroke Pattern (For Hyperrealism Only)

Use the grid method to sketch symmetrical strokes from left to right. This step is critical to avoid visual “optical illusions” that make brows look wonky even when they aren’t.

10. Check Again Before You Tattoo

Before beginning any tattooing, recheck the sketch in the app. Check the spine positions especially. Then once tattooing is done, check one final time before the client leaves.

Why This Method Will Set Your Work Apart

This might sound like a lot of steps, but I promise—it’ll save you time in the long run. You won’t waste time redrawing entire brows or dealing with follow-up corrections.

Most importantly, your clients will trust you more, recommend you more, and pay premium prices because your work looks flawless—and lasts.
