If you’re a PMU artist trying to get more clients without spending a fortune on marketing, you’re going to want to hear this.
Let’s be honest — paid ads can feel like a black hole. You throw money in and cross your fingers. But when you’re just starting or trying to build consistent client flow, there’s a smarter way to market yourself — one that’s completely free.
It’s how I started my business, got my first fully booked calendar, and still use to this day: Facebook Groups.
And no — not by spamming, promoting, or being annoying. I’ll walk you through how I used groups to turn one conversation into a steady stream of high-quality clients.
Spoiler: It works because it doesn’t feel like marketing.
Why Facebook Groups Still Work (If You Do It Right)
Back when I first moved to Amsterdam and started my PMU business from a small back room in a waxing salon, I had no money, no network, and no clue where to find clients.
Ads were out of the question — I didn’t have the budget.
So I turned to Facebook Groups. But not with a sales pitch. With conversation.
I joined local, female-focused groups like “Amsterdam Mamas” and “Women Entrepreneurs in Amsterdam” — places where my ideal client already was. Instead of posting promos, I showed up to be helpful, offer advice, and be a real person in the conversation.
And here’s the thing: people are curious. When you’re genuinely helpful, they’ll check your profile, see your work, and if it resonates… they’ll reach out. That’s exactly how I booked my first clients.
The Power of One Referral
Here’s where it gets magical.
Once I served that first client — a mum from the Amsterdam group — she referred me in the comments when someone else asked, “Does anyone know a good brow artist?”
That one recommendation was seen by hundreds. Suddenly I wasn’t just “a new artist” — I was the artist other women were talking about.
And then came the snowball effect.
I even got connected to a Facebook group for KLM airline hostesses. One client posted her brows, and now I have a consistent flow of air crew clients — all from that original referral.
The Right Way to Show Up in Groups
Here’s what works (and what doesn’t):
DO:
- Join local female-focused groups where your ideal clients hang out.
- Participate in conversations. Be human, helpful, kind.
- Share relevant knowledge when someone asks for recommendations (but without being salesy).
- Let your profile quietly do the selling — link it to your business page, showcase your best work.
DON’T:
- Drop promotions or discounts (you’ll likely get banned).
- Spam groups or cold-DM people — it ruins trust.
- Treat it like a quick win. This is a long-term organic strategy.
Pro Tips to Fast-Track Results
- Search old posts. Use the group’s search bar to find past conversations using keywords like “eyebrows,” “PMU,” “tattoo brows.” If someone asked for recommendations a few weeks ago, comment and reignite the conversation. You’ll pop up on their radar.
- Time block it. I tell my students to spend just 15 minutes a day inside groups. That’s it. Reply to a few posts, join a thread or two, then move on. Small consistent actions work best.
- Be known for being helpful. People remember kindness and value. The more they see you, the more they trust you.
It’s Not Fast. But It’s Free — and It Works.
This method takes time. But if you’re consistent, it will build momentum. You’ll go from “unknown artist” to “oh, I’ve seen her name pop up a few times — she must be good.”
Remember, organic marketing means you’re trading time instead of money. But that investment of time can build the kind of client flow that never relies on ads again.
You don’t need a big following, fancy brand, or perfect photos. You just need to show up, help people, and let your work speak for itself.
